- Tickets can be bought direct from venues, opera companies and promoters, and from ticket agencies. Unfortunately none of the agencies now offers an English language service.

Playguide (+81 3) 5802 9990 is linked with the AM/PM chain of 24-hour 'convenience stores' as well as the JR Plazas at Japan Railways stations. Two services formerly accessible from abroad are now only usable within Japan: Ticket
Pia 0570 029 944, which has branches at a number of department stores, and Lawson
Ticket 0570 000 403, a service of the Lawson chain of 24-hour 'convenience stores'. (Apparently Japanese ticket-buyers were routing their calls abroad to jump telephone queues, so the companies closed the access.)
- The ticket agencies are 'online' but only with themselves. When they are 'sold out', tickets may still be available from other sources. Note that tickets for famous visiting companies may go on sale six months before performances. Those for the New National Theatre are sold four months in advance.
